Muhammad ﷺ
the one whose remembrance is eternal… with whom Allah sealed His prophets…
and so he was the final mercy gifted to all the worlds…
What was he like… in his sleep… and in his waking…?
What was he like in his law-giving… and in his inner reality?
What was he like in his many… and varied… stations…
stretching from earth to heaven… and from heaven to earth
How did all those stations come into balance in him… in harmony… and in step… so that they became Muhammad!?!
How did he send out his rays… into hearts… and how did he open hearts… to those rays?
How did he mingle with people… at the very same time… that he was in communion with the Highest Assembly?
What was that character… which rose to the station of leader of all mankind…
to which no one else has ever been able to rise?
The Exalted said: ﴿وإنك لعلى خلق عظيم﴾ “And verily, you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are on an exalted standard of character.” (Al-Qalam 68:4)..
And He, glorified is He, said: ﴿وما أرسلناك إلا رحمة للعالمين﴾ “And We have sent you (O Muhammad ﷺ) not but as a mercy for the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).” (Al-Anbiya’ 21:107)..
You stand on the shore of the seas of his lights… trying to swim in them… and you swim… and swim… and swim…
and you think you have covered great distances… then you look behind you… and are astonished to find you have not gone beyond the shore!!
And Muhammad will remain… like this… always…
He is vaster… than minds… and vaster… than hearts…
Whatever you imagine of him… he is beyond anything that has crossed your heart… so what can you say?!!
Yet a pointer… may open the doors of expression…
Allah helped me in my attempt to circle around the lights of Muhammad ﷺ…
and the help from Allah the Exalted began to flow, and so this book came to be…
In it I approached “the character of Muhammad” ﷺ… from all its horizons…
and I went along with him ﷺ… through all that has been transmitted from him… in word… or deed… or station… or approval… or state… or guidance… or radiance… or pleasure… or anger… or law… or ruling… or inner reality… or outward aspect… or inward aspect… or beauty… or majesty…
I did not wish to labour over eloquence… or to embellish my phrases… but let the heart speak…
and so the book came as a pointer… but a radiant one… and as words… but words that point beyond themselves!!
So read… reflect… and ponder…
and you will come to know much about him… even if, in truth, it is but little.
