Biography

Mahmoud Mohamed Shalaby Ayoub was born on February 18, 1922, in the village of Damat near the city of Tanta in the Gharbia Governorate, Egypt.

Early Life

He grew up in a religious family like most Egyptian families at that time. After primary school, he moved to Cairo with his uncle to continue his education. Early on, he showed a notable talent in writing and was encouraged by his teachers.

Education and Career

He studied business administration and later joined the Egyptian Ministry of Finance. He retired at the age of sixty. However, this did not distract him from his original interest in reading and seeking knowledge about the truth and the wisdom of creation and life and death. He researched books in different fields by different authors, but could not reach a definitive answer to his questions. He found the only satisfying answer in the Noble Qur'an. From that point onwards, he focused on studying the Qur'an and the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The Intellectual Journey

Mahmoud Shalaby was a self-educated writer who relied on God Almighty and on himself in developing his knowledge in Islamic laws and religious studies. He studied the Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He worked hard to study the works of many prominent Muslim scholars as well as the biographies of the prophets. He expanded his knowledge to cover the history of many important figures in Islamic history too.

The Beginnings of Authorship

Mahmoud Shalaby began to write as well as to publish at an early age. It is worth mentioning that one of his early publications was the interpretation of the first and second parts of the Noble Qur'an.

Most Prominent Work

Mahmoud Shalaby authored over 150 books. Among his publications are books about the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and most lives of the prophets (peace be upon them all) mentioned in the Qur'an. His writings covered many of the Prophet's companions as well. He also wrote about some important historical Muslim women like Khadija and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them).

The author expanded his writings to include reflections on certain topics in the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) traditions, as in the books mentioned under the group of "Faith Reflections" in the list of books.

More than 100 of Mahmoud Shalaby's books have been published. Many of these books are on display at famous libraries around the world, including the Library of Alexandria in Egypt and the King Abdulaziz Public Library in Saudi Arabia.

Interpretation of the Noble Qur'an

One of the writer's most significant achievements was writing and recording his reflections on the interpretations of the Noble Qur'an.

"Mahmoud Shalaby left a rich scholarly and intellectual legacy; his books remain an important reference."

Family

He had five children: a son and four daughters. They had the author as their role model. Some of them followed in his footsteps and have published their own works on Islamic values.
